What is a registered builder?
In Victoria, building practitioners must be registered with the VBA to perform certain kinds of work. You’ll also need to use a registered builder for most domestic building work worth more than $10,000 (including labour and materials).
The following examples of landscaping work are generally considered domestic building work:
- verandahs
- pergolas attached to your home
- decks associated with your home
- retaining structures
- fencing (which requires a building permit).
